What Are Deployable Power Assets?
Deployable power assets are complete gas turbine generation packages configured for rapid installation and relocation. They combine an aero-derivative gas turbine, generator, fuel system, switchgear, and controls into a self-contained unit — typically on a single trailer or a small number of skids — that can be transported by road, rail, or sea and placed in service with minimal site preparation.
Unlike permanent installations, mobile turbine packages are engineered for connection speed and operational flexibility. Site requirements are minimal: a fuel supply, transmission hookup point, and cooling air. This makes them uniquely valuable for emergency response, temporary capacity augmentation, remote industrial sites, and military or government operations where grid infrastructure does not exist or cannot be relied upon.
Use Cases
Emergency Grid Support
Rapid response to natural disasters, grid failures, or unplanned generation outages. Mobile turbine packages can be online within days of dispatch.
Construction & Mining
Reliable power for large-scale construction projects, mining operations, and industrial sites in areas without adequate grid infrastructure.
Oil & Gas Operations
Upstream and midstream power for drilling pads, pipeline compression, LNG facilities, and offshore support — where grid power is unavailable or impractical.
Remote & Austere Environments
Government, defense, and humanitarian operations requiring self-sufficient power in locations without existing infrastructure.
Peak Shaving & Capacity
Temporary capacity augmentation during peak demand periods or while permanent generation assets are under maintenance or construction.
Hybrid Power Systems
Pairing mobile turbine capacity with battery storage or renewable generation for island grids and microgrids requiring dispatchable backup.
Mobile Package Configurations
Trailer-Mounted
- Road-transportable on standard heavy haul trailers
- Single or dual trailer configurations
- Fastest site-to-power deployment
- DOT-compliant for highway transit
- Air-transportable configurations available
Skid-Mounted
- Modular skid sets for larger output packages
- ISO container framing for sea freight
- Higher output range than trailer configurations
- More flexible for semi-permanent installations
- Crane-offloadable at remote sites
Common Mobile Turbine Models
The most widely traded mobile turbine packages are built around aero-derivative cores with proven fast-start capability and high power density. The GE LM2500 in trailer-mounted configuration is among the most sought-after mobile generation assets globally, offering 22–34 MW in a highly transportable package. The Pratt & Whitney FT4 has a large installed base in North America, with many units configured for trailer-mounted deployment. For smaller output requirements (5–15 MW), Solar Turbines Taurus and Mars series are common in skid-mounted industrial packages.
